Account sale policy
The rules for buying and selling game accounts, which carry risks the rest of the marketplace does not.
Read this first
An account sale is the highest-risk category on this marketplace, for both sides.
Almost every publisher prohibits the sale or transfer of game accounts. A publisher can reclaim, suspend or permanently ban a sold account at any time, including long after the sale, and neither Gain Arcade nor the seller can reverse that.
A buyer purchasing an account accepts that risk. A seller listing one accepts responsibility for what they are representing.
What a seller is representing
By listing an account, the seller represents that:
- they own the account and have the authority to transfer it;
- the account was not obtained by fraud, chargeback, account takeover or credential theft;
- the account is not subject to an active ban, suspension or restriction that has not been disclosed;
- the details in the listing, including rank, level, contents and region, are accurate at the time of listing;
- all recovery information will be transferred to the buyer.
Listing an account the seller does not own or has no authority to transfer is prohibited activity. It results in immediate removal, and Gain Arcade may refund the buyer in full and reverse the seller's proceeds.
Transfer
The seller must transfer everything needed for the buyer to control the account, including the email address it is registered to where the publisher allows that, and must remove any recovery method that would let the seller regain access.
The seller must not retain access, and must not attempt to recover the account after sale. Unauthorized recovery is prohibited activity, and where it occurs Gain Arcade may refund the buyer in full, reverse the seller's proceeds, and remove the seller.
Where a publisher does not permit a full transfer, the listing must say so plainly before purchase.
The review window
An account sale carries a seven day buyer review window rather than the usual three. The longer window exists because an account problem, a recovery attempt or a publisher action often does not surface immediately.
Funds are held for the whole of that window unless the buyer confirms sooner.
Disputes on an account sale
A buyer may open a dispute within the review window where:
- the account does not match the listing in a material way;
- the account is banned, suspended or restricted at handover;
- the seller retained access or attempted recovery;
- recovery information was not transferred as described.
A dispute opened because the publisher banned the account for the sale itself is decided on the facts: the risk of a publisher acting against an account sale is disclosed before purchase and is accepted by the buyer.
Seller of record
The verified seller account that listed the account is the seller of record, including where a team fulfilled it. Proceeds, refund liability and chargeback liability sit with that account.
